I spent the last day of 2012 reading, interpreting, dancing, singing, talking and laughing. A good close to a year that felt too long.

Happy new year from somewhere in the Indian Ocean! It's another 4 days to Mauritius. I think at the end of 3 months, I might be able to enjoy dancing without being superdrunk.

On Saturday I rolled around in bed and went to volunteer orientation for a group that gives free tours near Tokyo Station. I had to pay a bunch to become a member and there are still hoops to jump through, but it sounds like an interesting opportunity and I have high hopes. The difference between the movements in my African dance class and belly dance are so interesting. The former is more... primal? Choppy, rough, large movements and defined rhythms. The latter is so smooth and soft and feminine.

I'm awful at both and they're both really cool-looking, but from such different worlds. I'm likely trying out hula this

Putting aside that I still have five (fairly small) boxes of clothes with no way of storing them and a closet full of garbage I don't know what to do with, I'm feeling good.

Yesterday we practiced the CSA dance again for around 2 hours for the college dancers show tonight.  We got to watch parts of their dances-- they're really good.  I never had much of an interest in dancing/dancers/etc. but I've definitely changed my mind.  They are all built in the same general way (like, body type), so long and... lean, I guess, ( Read more... )
